The Mahindra XUV700 has truly redefined expectations for Indian SUVs since its groundbreaking launch. It quickly became a segment leader, celebrated for its advanced technology, powerful performance, and outstanding safety rating.

As of June 2025, Mahindra has already introduced several updates to the XUV700. They've streamlined the lineup by discontinuing 5-seater variants and certain lower-spec trims. There have also been some price adjustments and the introduction of a new Ebony Edition. While a major facelift might be slated for 2026, we can still look at how the XUV700 continues to evolve through 2025, ensuring it maintains its competitive edge.

Current Updates and Price

As of May 2025, Mahindra has made some key changes to the XUV700 lineup. The 5-seater variants and the lower-spec AX3 trims are no longer available. This means the XUV700 is now primarily offered in 6- and 7-seater configurations.

Prices for some higher-spec AX7 and AX7 L variants also saw an increase of up to ₹75,000 in March 2025. Currently, the Mahindra XUV700's ex-showroom price starts from ₹14.49 lakh and goes up to ₹25.14 lakh for the top-end variants, such as the impressive Ebony Edition AX7 L Diesel AT AWD.

Great news for buyers: the waiting period for the XUV700 has significantly reduced. It's generally under a month across all variants now, making it much easier to get your hands on this popular SUV.

Exterior Design: Still Bold and Modern

The XUV700's design is already very contemporary, giving it a strong presence on the road. It's easily recognizable by its distinctive C-shaped LED DRLs, a large chrome grille, and sleek flush door handles.

While a full-fledged facelift with major exterior changes (perhaps hinting at a "XUV 7XO" nameplate with design cues from the XEV 7e/9e electric concepts) is more likely for 2026, the 2025 models will continue to offer the same appealing aesthetics.

Recent additions, like the Ebony Edition, demonstrate Mahindra's strategy of offering special versions. These come with cosmetic enhancements such as all-black exteriors, black alloy wheels, and striking red brake calipers, appealing to buyers who want a more distinctive and premium look. The vehicle truly retains its commanding road presence, sharp lines, and the popular panoramic "Skyroof" sunroof, which remain major attractions.

Interior: Tech-Rich and Comfortable

The interior of the XUV700 is arguably where it truly excels, setting a new benchmark for its segment. The dual 10.25-inch HD superscreens, seamlessly integrated for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, create a genuinely futuristic and high-tech cockpit feel. As of 2025, the XUV700 continues to offer a rich suite of features designed for both comfort and convenience.

Key interior features include AdrenoX Connect with over 70 connected car functionalities, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for effortless smartphone integration, and a premium 12-speaker Sony 3D immersive sound system for an exceptional audio experience. Comfort is further enhanced by dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-way powered driver's seat with memory function and a welcome retract feature, and ventilated front seats in the top variants, perfect for the Indian climate.

Practical elements are also well thought out, with rear AC vents, multiple charging ports (including C-Type in the second row), and ambient lighting. These ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all occupants, whether you choose the 6-seater (with captain seats) or the 7-seater configuration.

Engine and Performance: Powerful and Refined

The Mahindra XUV700 continues to be powered by its robust and highly regarded engine options, known for both their strong performance and refinement.

Buyers can choose from the 2.0-liter mStallion Turbo-Petrol Engine, which delivers an impressive 200 PS of power and a substantial 380 Nm of torque. Alternatively, there's the 2.2-liter mHawk Turbo-Diesel Engine. This diesel engine is available in two states of tune: a 155 PS and 360 Nm version for lower variants, or a more powerful 185 PS with 420-450 Nm of torque for higher variants (the 450 Nm applies to the automatic).

Both engines come with a choice of either a smooth 6-speed manual or a seamless 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Notably, the XUV700's diesel automatic variants continue to offer an optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. This crucial feature significantly enhances its capability on varied terrains, ensuring the XUV700 can confidently tackle diverse driving conditions. The advanced suspension setup also plays a vital role, ensuring a comfortable ride quality and impressive high-speed stability, making it an ideal vehicle for long journeys.

Safety Features: 5-Star Rated Confidence

Safety is a cornerstone of the XUV700's appeal, and it's engineered to meet the highest standards. It proudly holds a 5-star adult occupant protection rating and a 4-star child occupant protection rating from Global NCAP, which unequivocally confirms its robust build quality and comprehensive safety kit.

Standard safety features across all variants are robust, including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD (Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), and essential rear parking sensors. Higher variants significantly enhance safety with an even more extensive array of features.

These include up to 7 airbags (including knee and curtain airbags that extend to all three rows), an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for better control, Hill Hold Control, and Hill Descent Control for challenging inclines. It also offers ISOFIX child seat mounts for secure child seat installation.

Beyond passive safety, higher variants introduce Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). This advanced suite comprises features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and1 Traffic Sign Recognition,2 all designed to enhance both safety and driving convenience. Furthermore, a 360-degree Surround View System with Blind-spot View and Driver Drowsiness Detection are included, along with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). These comprehensive safety features collectively make the XUV700 one of the safest vehicles in its segment, offering unparalleled peace of mind to all occupants.

Mileage and Competition

The XUV700 offers competitive fuel efficiency, especially considering its size and powerful engines. While real-world mileage can vary based on driving conditions, current ARAI-claimed figures provide a good benchmark.

For the Petrol Manual variant, you can expect around 15 kmpl, while the Petrol Automatic offers approximately 13 kmpl. The Diesel Manual is quite efficient at around 17 kmpl, and the Diesel Automatic (both 2WD and AWD versions) delivers about 16.57 kmpl.

The Mahindra XUV700 continues to face strong competition in the mid-size SUV segment. Its primary rivals include the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and even specific variants of the Mahindra Scorpio-N. However, the XUV700's unique combination of segment-leading features, powerful and refined engines, advanced safety, and Mahindra's strong brand presence ensures it remains a top contender. It is undoubtedly a preferred choice for many Indian SUV enthusiasts looking for a premium and highly capable family vehicle.
